Just a Quick Smash Book Page
I wasn't feeling very creative when I sat down to work, but I knew I had to get something done to get going for the day.
Sometimes I'll slap some paint on blank pages for backgrounds or
something; anything to get a brush moving in my hand. This will
sometimes spark something. Other times I'll throw together a smash book
page; this is one of those.
It's not the greatest, most attractive page,
but it got me moving around my work station and afterwards I was able
to get in the groove and get some painting done. So although it's not
beautiful, I'm sharing it because it's all part of my process. How do you get going when you just aren't "feeling it"?

Art Journal Page Speed Process - Genuine
Well, here it is! Finally uploaded. This seemed to be a page that I just kept messing up on lol. I ended up really happy with the results after I tore off the part I didn't like. Hope you like!

New Video Coming Soon - Genuine
Here's a look at my latest journal page. Video of this page process is uploading now. I promised to share my mistakes, and here one is already. That speech bubble on the right was something else entirely for a while. Because I tend to be a perfectionist in certain areas, I have found it difficult to learn to accept that everything I create will not be perfect. It's not always easy to give up on something I've been working on, but at some point you just have to let go...so I ripped it right off the page! I am so much happier with the way it looks now.

"Scratch Paper" Journal Page Process - Happy Flowers
Remember scratch paper? You know, that paper you used as a kid that was covered in black and when you scratched into it you revealed all these rainbow colors underneath. This video shows a technique using gesso that has that same feel. It's so simple: you just spread gesso all over your pre-painted background and then carve into it with a rubber chisel (or brush handle, etc.). Unlike the old scratch paper, if you mess up you just brush the gesso smooth again and start over (you can only do this a couple of times before the gesso starts to set up). If you really want it to feel like scratch paper, use black gesso. I think I want to do a page like that, with black gesso and some great bright colors painted over it...keep an eye out for that video.
Sneak Peak of New Video
Here's a sneak peak of a new video that I am currently editing. I'm so excited about the way the colors turned out, so bright and vibrant. Video should be up tomorrow or Friday...check back soon.
